ETTA, Miss., Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — For more than two decades, Dr. Lucas Trautman, M.D., MPH, ABPN, ABPM, has served patients in Memphis and across the Mid-South through his work in psychiatry and addiction medicine. Now, the Memphis native and medical director of Oxford Treatment Center is being recognized for his contributions to healthcare. The Memphis Business Journal named Dr. Trautman a 2026 Health Care Hero in the physician category.
In its 27th year, the Memphis Business Journal’s Health Care Heroes Awards recognize individuals, companies and organizations making extraordinary contributions to healthcare. Honorees are nominated by the public and selected by the publication.
“We are honored to have one of the region’s most highly regarded physicians leading the medical care of our patients,” said Paige Havens, executive director of Oxford Treatment Center. “Dr. Trautman’s expertise, leadership and compassion directly influence the quality of care our patients receive. For individuals and families trusting us during one of the most vulnerable times in their lives, having a physician of his caliber guiding their treatment makes an immeasurable difference.”
This recognition also holds special meaning for the community Dr. Trautman serves. Addiction continues to devastate individuals and families throughout Memphis and the Mid-South. According to the Shelby County Health Department, more Shelby County residents die of overdose each year than die in auto accidents.
“To be nominated by someone in the community and recognized in my hometown is deeply meaningful,” said Dr. Trautman. “As a fourth-generation physician, I was raised to view medicine not simply as a profession but as an opportunity to serve. We are still losing far too many lives to drug and alcohol addiction, despite the fact that it is a treatable disease. I consider it one of my life’s callings to save lives in my community and beyond.”
Dr. Trautman is board certified in addiction medicine and is also a regional authority in medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. In addition to his clinical leadership, Dr. Trautman contributes to public conversations about addiction, mental health and emerging substance-use trends. His work provides families with credible medical information and helps reduce the stigma that can prevent people from seeking treatment.
Dr. Trautman and the other 2026 Health Care Heroes were recognized during an awards ceremony held August 20th at the Memphis Botanic Garden.
