Lab-reported natural Mozambique stone will open at US$1 on October 14, with the final price set by live bidding
GOLD COAST, QLD, AUSTRALIA, October 12, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Gem Rock Auctions, an online marketplace for gemstones and jewelry, will offer an 8.314-carat Paraíba tourmaline in a live online auction on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at 10:30pm EDT. The stone is being sold by Bangkok-based dealer The Gem Portal, with bidding opening at US$1 and no reserve price.
Paraíba tourmaline is a copper-bearing variety of tourmaline first identified in the Brazilian state of Paraíba in the late 1980s, with later deposits found in Nigeria and Mozambique. Stones above several carats are uncommon, and are typically sold through private dealer networks or traditional auction houses with published estimates and reserve prices.
The stone was examined by Bellerophon Gemlab in Paris. The report (number B79430, dated September 30, 2026) identifies it as a natural Paraíba tourmaline of Mozambique (Mavuco) provenance and states “no indications of any treatment.” The faceted oval measures 14.90 x 12.28 x 7.37 mm and is described as greenish blue. The report can be checked by report number at Bellerophon’s verification page.
Because the auction has no reserve, the stone will sell to the highest bidder regardless of the final price. The sale will be held as a live show on Gem Rock Auctions, with registered bidders able to take part from any country.
“With no reserve, the final price will be decided entirely by bidders in real time,” said Ross Sedawie, COO of Gem Rock Auctions. “That is unusual for a stone of this size, and the result will give a public reference point in a market where most prices are never disclosed.”
“We wanted to see what the market would pay for this stone in an open setting,” said Jake Mossbarger, Co-Founder of The Gem Portal. “Starting at US$1 means the price is set by the bidders on the night.”
The auction will begin at 10:30pm EDT on Wednesday, October 14 (7:30pm PDT; 3:30am BST and 10:30am HKT on Thursday, October 15; 1:30pm AEDT on Thursday, October 15). Participants need a registered and verified Gem Rock Auctions account to bid.
Gem Rock Auctions will publish the final sale result following the auction.
