Specialized Programs Provide Teens with Intensive Clinical Support While Keeping Them Connected to School, Family and Everyday Life.
CHICAGO, IL / ACCESS Newswire / September 21, 2026 / Northern Illinois Recovery Center (NIRC) in Crystal Lake, IL, is addressing critical gaps in adolescent addiction and mental health care through specialized Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs designed to provide teens with intensive clinical support while allowing them to remain connected to their families, schools, and everyday lives.
The Programs were developed in response to a growing need for adolescent care that addresses substance abuse, mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and PTSD, or co-occurring substance abuse and mental health concerns. NIRC recognized that many teens need a higher level of support than traditional outpatient services provide, but may not require-or benefit from-being completely removed from their home and school environments.
“Too often, kids don’t receive help until they’re in crisis,” said Dr. Caitlyn McClure, Vice President of Clinical Services at Northern Illinois Recovery Center. “I wanted to build IOP and PHP programs that change that trajectory by offering intensive, clinically meaningful care while keeping kids connected to their families and broader support networks.”
The IOP program is scheduled around typical school day hours so that treatment doesn’t interfere with school attendance and daily life, while the PHP program provides further structured support to teens requiring additional clinical care.
Teens in PHP work with certified educators during dedicated coursework time and coordinate with each student’s school to align assignments, track progress, and keep teachers and families updated. Programming follows a structured weekly theme, with sessions focused on areas including identity, emotional regulation, and relationships, providing teens with a comprehensive therapeutic experience.
By combining intensive treatment with opportunities to remain engaged in school, family life, and their communities, NIRC’s adolescent programs are designed to help teens build healthier coping skills and create sustainable paths toward recovery.
